Teltonika RUT906 power supply and cables

The Teltonika RUT906 is a four-port 4G router with a 4-pin power socket. Here is what fits it, what it draws, and which cable suits your install.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 9 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Good to know: we sell the power cable, not the Teltonika RUT906. If you need the router, buy it from a Teltonika distributor and pick the lead here.

About the Teltonika RUT906

The RUT906 is the RUT9 family member for serious automation work. Next to four Ethernet ports and dual SIM it has GNSS, an RS232 DB9 port, an RS485 socket, USB, a microSD slot on the board and a separate I/O block. It is the official replacement for the RUT955.

That serial and I/O mix is why it shows up in substations, water treatment and anywhere old Modbus equipment needs a 4G link.

The car cable and the 230 V supply only use pins 1 and 2. The I/O wires are on the screw terminal cable.

How much power the RUT906 draws

Here is what it draws: 1.9 W at idle and 9 W at full load, measured by Teltonika at 12 V. That peak works out at about 748 mA, or 50% of our supply's rating. Teltonika's 24 V figure is 9.5 W at peak.

Peak at 12 V: 9 W of the 18 W our 230 V supply delivers

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. 12 V from a wall socket. The RUT906 peaks at 9 W, well within the 18 W rating.
  • Vehicle. For 12 V cars and 24 V trucks, passing 9 to 30 V straight through.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. For DC rails, batteries and solar. Green and white bring out the I/O. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • With RS485, I/O and power all near each other, label the wires before you close the cabinet. The next technician will thank you.
  • On 24 V vehicles, add surge protection. Truck and bus systems can spike well above 30 V at engine start, and the Teltonika RUT906 is only rated to 30 V.
  • Insulate any wire you do not use. A loose green or white wire touching the cabinet can trigger an input or short an output.

Teltonika RUT906 power FAQ

?Which input voltage does the Teltonika RUT906 accept?

Anything from 9 to 30 V DC works, so a 12 V battery, a 24 V truck system or our 12 V supply are all fine. Stay below 30 V, including spikes.

?Does the Teltonika RUT906 come with a power supply?

New units usually ship with a 9 V wall adapter. A second cable makes sense for spares, a second site, or an install where a wall plug is not practical, such as a vehicle or a DIN rail cabinet.

?Do I need the screw terminal cable to use the I/O on the Teltonika RUT906?

Only for the two pins on the power socket. The RUT906 also has its own I/O block, which you wire separately. Our screw terminal cable gives you the input and output that sit on pins 3 and 4.

?Can I use the input and output on the Teltonika RUT906 with your cable?

Yes. The screw terminal cable brings pin 3 (digital input) out on the green wire and pin 4 (digital output) on the white wire. Configure them in RutOS under Services, Input/Output.

?Is the 18 W supply strong enough for the Teltonika RUT906?

Yes. The Teltonika RUT906 peaks at 9 W on 12 V, about 50% of the supply's rating.

?Can I buy the Teltonika RUT906 from you?

No, the router is not included. You get the cable or supply you order, and the Teltonika RUT906 itself comes from a Teltonika reseller.
