Teltonika RUT901 power supply and cables

Three ways to power the Teltonika RUT901, a four-port 4G router: a 230 V wall supply, a 12/24 V car cable and a screw terminal cable. All fit its 4-pin socket.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 3.1 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. This page is about powering the Teltonika RUT901. We make the cables and the supply. The router itself comes from Teltonika and its resellers.

About the Teltonika RUT901

The RUT901 is the plain member of Teltonika's larger RUT9 family: four Ethernet ports, two SIM slots, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a Cat 4 modem in the chunkier 110 x 50 x 100 mm housing with mounting ears. It is the official replacement for the RUT950.

With four ports it can connect a small office, a shop or a site with several cameras without an extra switch.

How much power the RUT901 draws

Teltonika's power table puts the Teltonika RUT901 at 1.2 W idle and 3.1 W flat out at 12 V. In current that is about 259 mA, against the 1500 mA our supply can give. At 24 V Teltonika lists a peak of 3.4 W.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. For a desk, a shop or any spot with a wall socket. Uses about 17% of the supply at peak.
  • Vehicle. Quick vehicle install. Fine on 12 V and 24 V systems.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for 12, 24 or 30 V DC, with the I/O wires included. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • The RUT9 housing has mounting holes in its flanges. Screw it down rather than letting it hang from the cables, so the 4-pin plug is not pulled at an angle.
  • On 24 V vehicles, add surge protection. Truck and bus systems can spike well above 30 V at engine start, and the Teltonika RUT901 is only rated to 30 V.
  • Measure the voltage at the router end once installed, especially with long cable runs on 12 V systems.

Teltonika RUT901 power FAQ

?What voltage does the Teltonika RUT901 need?

The Teltonika RUT901 accepts 9 to 30 V DC on its 4-pin socket. That covers 12 V and 24 V systems, but not 48 V.

?I lost the adapter for my Teltonika RUT901. What do I need?

Any DC supply within 9 to 30 V DC on a Teltonika-style 4-pin plug will work. Our 230 V supply gives 12 V at 1.5 A, which suits the Teltonika RUT901.

?I am moving from a RUT950 to a RUT901. Does the power cable carry over?

Yes. Teltonika lists the RUT901 as the RUT950's replacement, and both use the 4-pin socket with 9 to 30 V. Your existing cable will fit.

?Does the screw terminal cable give access to the Teltonika RUT901's I/O?

Yes. Only the screw terminal cable connects them. Green goes to the input and white to the output. The car cable and the 230 V supply only use the power pins.

?How much headroom does the Teltonika RUT901 leave on an 18 W supply?

Plenty. At 3.1 W peak, the Teltonika RUT901 uses 17% of 18 W.

?Do you sell the Teltonika RUT901 itself?

No. We only make the power cables and the supply. The Teltonika RUT901 is sold by Teltonika's distributors.
