Teltonika TRB140 power supply and cables

The Teltonika TRB140 is a 4G gateway with a 4-pin power socket. Here is what fits it, what it draws, and which cable suits your install.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 3.9 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Good to know: we sell the power cable, not the Teltonika TRB140. If you need the router, buy it from a Teltonika distributor and pick the lead here.

About the Teltonika TRB140

The TRB140 is a gateway rather than a full router: one Gigabit Ethernet port, a micro USB port, one SIM and a Cat 4 modem, with no Wi-Fi. It is one of the smallest boxes Teltonika makes, at 74.5 x 25 x 64.4 mm.

People use it to give one machine, a meter or a controller its own 4G connection, often tucked inside the equipment it serves.

How much power the TRB140 draws

With everything busy, Teltonika's figure for the Teltonika TRB140 is 3.9 W at 12 V, and about 0.72 W at rest. Even that peak leaves 14.1 W spare on the 18 W supply. Teltonika's 24 V figure is 3.9 W at peak.

Peak at 12 V: 3.9 W of the 18 W our 230 V supply delivers

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. 12 V from a wall socket. The TRB140 peaks at 3.9 W, well within the 18 W rating.
  • Vehicle. Quick vehicle install. Fine on 12 V and 24 V systems.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for 12, 24 or 30 V DC, with the I/O wires included. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • Inside machinery, route the cable away from motor leads and contactors. A short screw terminal run from the machine's own 24 V supply is usually the tidiest option.
  • On 24 V vehicles, add surge protection. Truck and bus systems can spike well above 30 V at engine start, and the Teltonika TRB140 is only rated to 30 V.
  • Fit a fuse near the battery when you use the screw terminal cable on 12 V. Our FAQ suggests a 2 A slow-blow fuse.

Teltonika TRB140 power FAQ

?Which input voltage does the Teltonika TRB140 accept?

Anything from 9 to 30 V DC works, so a 12 V battery, a 24 V truck system or our 12 V supply are all fine. Stay below 30 V, including spikes.

?I lost the adapter for my Teltonika TRB140. What do I need?

Any DC supply within 9 to 30 V DC on a Teltonika-style 4-pin plug will work. Our 230 V supply gives 12 V at 1.5 A, which suits the Teltonika TRB140.

?The Teltonika TRB140 is tiny. Is the 4-pin plug the same size as on the routers?

Yes. It uses the same 4-pin power socket as the RUT and RUTX routers, so our cables plug straight in.

?Does the screw terminal cable give access to the Teltonika TRB140's I/O?

The 4-pin socket on the Teltonika TRB140 carries one digital input and one digital output, and the screw terminal cable brings both out on the green and white wires. Check Teltonika's pinout drawing for which pin is which before wiring.

?How much headroom does the Teltonika TRB140 leave on an 18 W supply?

Plenty. At 3.9 W peak, the Teltonika TRB140 uses 22% of 18 W.

?Can I buy the Teltonika TRB140 from you?

No, the router is not included. You get the cable or supply you order, and the Teltonika TRB140 itself comes from a Teltonika reseller.
