Teltonika RUTM56 power supply and cables

The Teltonika RUTM56 is a 5G and 4G router with a 4-pin power socket. Here is what fits it, what it draws, and which cable suits your install.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 50 V DC
  • Peak 9.2 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Good to know: we sell the power cable, not the Teltonika RUTM56. If you need the router, buy it from a Teltonika distributor and pick the lead here.

About the Teltonika RUTM56

The RUTM56 has one 5G modem and one 4G Cat 4 modem, which lets it run on new and old networks at the same time. With dual SIM plus eSIM, load balancing, Wi-Fi 5 and five Gigabit ports, it is built for sites in the middle of the switch from 4G to 5G.

It is a good fit for regions where 5G coverage is patchy and you want 4G as a fully separate path.

How much power the RUTM56 draws

With everything busy, Teltonika's figure for the Teltonika RUTM56 is 9.2 W at 12 V, and about 3.2 W at rest. Even that peak leaves 8.8 W spare on the 18 W supply. Teltonika's 24 V figure is 9.1 W at peak.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. 12 V from a wall socket. The RUTM56 peaks at 9.2 W, well within the 18 W rating.
  • Vehicle. Plugs into a 12 or 24 V socket. Vehicle voltage passes straight to the router.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Permanent wiring in a cabinet or vehicle, 2 m long. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • With two modems on different networks, put the router where both have signal. If you move it, the power cable length can be the limit, so check before you mount.
  • The Teltonika RUTM56 is rated to 50 V, which gives good margin on 24 V vehicles. A clean supply is still the best protection against spikes.
  • Keep the screw terminals tight and check them once a year in vehicles or cabinets with vibration.

Teltonika RUTM56 power FAQ

?Which input voltage does the Teltonika RUTM56 accept?

Teltonika rates the Teltonika RUTM56 for 9 to 50 V DC. That is wider than the older 9 to 30 V models and gives extra margin on 24 V vehicles.

?Why buy a separate power cable for the Teltonika RUTM56?

The adapter in the box only works with a wall socket. In a vehicle, a cabinet or on a battery, the car cable or the screw terminal cable is the better fit.

?Does running two modems on the Teltonika RUTM56 push the power up?

Not as much as you might think. Teltonika measured about 9.2 W at full load on 12 V. All three of our cables have plenty of margin.

?What do the green and white wires do on the Teltonika RUTM56?

Green is the digital input on pin 3 and white is the digital output on pin 4. You set up both in the RutOS web interface.

?Will the 230 V supply run the Teltonika RUTM56 at full load?

Yes. Teltonika's full-load figure is 9.2 W at 12 V, which leaves 8.8 W unused.

?Can I buy the Teltonika RUTM56 from you?

No, the router is not included. You get the cable or supply you order, and the Teltonika RUTM56 itself comes from a Teltonika reseller.
