Teltonika RUTM52 power supply and cables

Everything about powering the Teltonika RUTM52, a dual-modem 5G router: the voltage it accepts, its real power draw and the cables that fit.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 50 V DC
  • Peak 10.7 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Only the power side is ours. The Teltonika RUTM52 is made and sold by Teltonika, while the cables below are made and shipped by Smart Power Cable.

Please note

Teltonika's sources differ on the RUTM52's I/O pins. Power on pins 1 and 2 works the same on every unit.

About the Teltonika RUTM52

The RUTM52 has two 5G modems, so it can load-balance or fail over between two operators at 5G speed. It also has five Gigabit ports and Wi-Fi 5. Teltonika's interface overview for the RUTM52 does not list any I/O, but its power socket page does show input and output pins.

It is meant for mission-critical sites, live broadcast and emergency vehicles.

How much power the RUTM52 draws

Teltonika measured the Teltonika RUTM52 at 4.4 W when idle and 10.7 W at full load on a 12 V supply, about 890 mA. That is 59% of what our 18 W supply can deliver. On a 24 V supply the peak is about 11.4 W.

Peak at 12 V: 10.7 W of the 18 W our 230 V supply delivers

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. A replacement for the original adapter, with 7.3 W of spare capacity.
  • Vehicle. A quick vehicle install with a fused plug and LED.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for 12, 24 or 48 V DC, with the I/O wires included. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • Two 5G modems at full speed draw more than one. Teltonika measured about 10.7 W at 12 V, so 18 W is fine, but leave the USB port for light devices.
  • The Teltonika RUTM52 is rated to 50 V, which gives good margin on 24 V vehicles. A clean supply is still the best protection against spikes.
  • Fit a fuse near the battery when you use the screw terminal cable on 12 V. Our FAQ suggests a 2 A slow-blow fuse.

Teltonika RUTM52 power FAQ

?Can I run the Teltonika RUTM52 on 12 V or 24 V?

Yes. The Teltonika RUTM52 accepts 9 to 50 V DC, which covers 12 V, 24 V and most 48 V DC installations.

?I lost the adapter for my Teltonika RUTM52. What do I need?

Any DC supply within 9 to 50 V DC on a Teltonika-style 4-pin plug will work. Our 230 V supply gives 12 V at 1.5 A, which suits the Teltonika RUTM52.

?Does the Teltonika RUTM52 have I/O on the power socket?

Teltonika's sources disagree. The pinout page lists input and output on pins 3 and 4, but the interface overview does not mention I/O. Our cables power it either way. Check your unit's manual before relying on the green and white wires.

?Does the screw terminal cable give access to the Teltonika RUTM52's I/O?

Teltonika's pinout page shows input and output on pins 3 and 4, which our screw terminal cable brings out on green and white. Check your unit's manual first, since the interface overview does not list them.

?How much headroom does the Teltonika RUTM52 leave on an 18 W supply?

Plenty. At 10.7 W peak, the Teltonika RUTM52 uses 59% of 18 W.

?Does Smart Power Cable sell Teltonika routers?

Not the router, no. We are an independent maker of power cables. The Teltonika RUTM52 is a Teltonika product sold through their own channels.
