Teltonika RUTM50 power supply and cables

The Teltonika RUTM50 is a 5G router with a 4-pin power socket. Here is what fits it, what it draws, and which cable suits your install.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 50 V DC
  • Peak 9.1 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Good to know: we sell the power cable, not the Teltonika RUTM50. If you need the router, buy it from a Teltonika distributor and pick the lead here.

About the Teltonika RUTM50

The RUTM50 is a 5G router with five Gigabit ports, dual SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi, GNSS and USB. Teltonika's wiki describes it as aimed at North America, and Teltonika names it as the replacement for both the RUTX14 and the RUTX50.

That makes it the default upgrade for anyone running RUTX50 or RUTX14 routers today.

How much power the RUTM50 draws

Teltonika's power table puts the Teltonika RUTM50 at 3.1 W idle and 9.1 W flat out at 12 V. In current that is about 759 mA, against the 1500 mA our supply can give. Teltonika's 24 V figure is 9 W at peak.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. 12 V from a wall socket. The RUTM50 peaks at 9.1 W, well within the 18 W rating.
  • Vehicle. For 12 V cars and 24 V trucks. The RUTM50 accepts up to 50 V.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. For DC rails, batteries and solar. Green and white bring out the I/O. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • When upgrading from a RUTX50, the lower draw of the RUTM50 means a supply that was borderline before now has comfortable margin.
  • The Teltonika RUTM50 is rated to 50 V, which gives good margin on 24 V vehicles. A clean supply is still the best protection against spikes.
  • Insulate any wire you do not use. A loose green or white wire touching the cabinet can trigger an input or short an output.

Teltonika RUTM50 power FAQ

?Which input voltage does the Teltonika RUTM50 accept?

Teltonika rates the Teltonika RUTM50 for 9 to 50 V DC. That is wider than the older 9 to 30 V models and gives extra margin on 24 V vehicles.

?Does the Teltonika RUTM50 come with a power supply?

New units usually ship with a 9 V wall adapter. A second cable makes sense for spares, a second site, or an install where a wall plug is not practical, such as a vehicle or a DIN rail cabinet.

?Can I move my cable from a Teltonika RUTX50 to a RUTM50?

Yes. Both use the 4-pin socket with 9 to 50 V. The RUTM50 also draws less, about 9.1 W at full load on 12 V against about 16.2 W for the RUTX50.

?Can I use the input and output on the Teltonika RUTM50 with your cable?

Yes. The screw terminal cable brings pin 3 (digital input) out on the green wire and pin 4 (digital output) on the white wire. Configure them in RutOS under Services, Input/Output.

?Is the 18 W supply strong enough for the Teltonika RUTM50?

Yes. The Teltonika RUTM50 peaks at 9.1 W on 12 V, about 51% of the supply's rating.

?Can I buy the Teltonika RUTM50 from you?

No, the router is not included. You get the cable or supply you order, and the Teltonika RUTM50 itself comes from a Teltonika reseller.
