Teltonika RUTM20 power supply and cables

Everything about powering the Teltonika RUTM20, a 5G router: the voltage it accepts, its real power draw and the cables that fit.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 50 V DC
  • Peak 6.3 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Only the power side is ours. The Teltonika RUTM20 is made and sold by Teltonika, while the cables below are made and shipped by Smart Power Cable.

Please note

The RUTM20 has no input or output on its power socket. Pins 3 and 4 are unused, so all three cables work for power only.

About the Teltonika RUTM20

The RUTM20 is an ultra-compact global 5G router with a Telit 5G modem, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual-band Wi-Fi and an integrated eSIM. It supports PoE input and output, so it can power a camera or be powered over the cable. Unlike most Teltonika routers, it has no input or output on its power socket.

Teltonika aims it at point-of-sale, surveillance and transport, where space is tight.

How much power the RUTM20 draws

On 12 V, the Teltonika RUTM20 draws about 525 mA at its busiest, or 6.3 W. Left idle it sits near 3 W. Our 230 V supply is rated 1.5 A, so the router uses roughly 35% of it at peak. On a 24 V supply the peak is about 6.6 W.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. A replacement for the original adapter, with 11.7 W of spare capacity.
  • Vehicle. Plugs into a 12 or 24 V socket. Vehicle voltage passes straight to the router.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for a DC rail or battery. Pins 3 and 4 are unused on the RUTM20. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • If the RUTM20 powers a camera over PoE, that power comes out of the router's own supply. Add the camera's draw to the router's figure before you choose a supply.
  • The Teltonika RUTM20 is rated to 50 V, which gives good margin on 24 V vehicles. A clean supply is still the best protection against spikes.
  • Keep the screw terminals tight and check them once a year in vehicles or cabinets with vibration.

Teltonika RUTM20 power FAQ

?Can I run the Teltonika RUTM20 on 12 V or 24 V?

Yes. The Teltonika RUTM20 accepts 9 to 50 V DC, which covers 12 V, 24 V and most 48 V DC installations.

?Why buy a separate power cable for the Teltonika RUTM20?

The adapter in the box only works with a wall socket. In a vehicle, a cabinet or on a battery, the car cable or the screw terminal cable is the better fit.

?Can I use the input and output pins on the Teltonika RUTM20?

No. On the RUTM20, pins 3 and 4 of the power socket are not used, according to Teltonika's pinout. Our cables still power it through pins 1 and 2, but the green and white wires on the screw terminal cable have no function here.

?What do the green and white wires do on the Teltonika RUTM20?

They have no function on the Teltonika RUTM20, since pins 3 and 4 are not used. Insulate the green and white ends and leave them unconnected.

?Will the 230 V supply run the Teltonika RUTM20 at full load?

Yes. Teltonika's full-load figure is 6.3 W at 12 V, which leaves 11.7 W unused.

?Does Smart Power Cable sell Teltonika routers?

Not the router, no. We are an independent maker of power cables. The Teltonika RUTM20 is a Teltonika product sold through their own channels.
