Teltonika RUT260 power supply and cables

Three ways to power the Teltonika RUT260, a compact 4G router: a 230 V wall supply, a 12/24 V car cable and a screw terminal cable. All fit its 4-pin socket.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 2.9 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. This page is about powering the Teltonika RUT260. We make the cables and the supply. The router itself comes from Teltonika and its resellers.

About the Teltonika RUT260

The RUT260 keeps the small RUT2 body but moves up to an LTE Cat 6 modem with carrier aggregation, so it pulls more bandwidth from the same mast. Everything else is familiar: one SIM, two Ethernet ports, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the 4-pin socket on the front.

It suits sites that stream video or move larger files, where a Cat 4 modem would be the bottleneck.

How much power the RUT260 draws

The numbers are small: 0.94 W at idle and 2.9 W at full load, measured by Teltonika at 12 V. That peak works out at about 238 mA, or 16% of our supply's rating. At 24 V Teltonika lists a peak of 2.9 W.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. For a desk, a shop or any spot with a wall socket. Uses about 16% of the supply at peak.
  • Vehicle. Plugs into a vehicle socket. Fused, with an LED in the plug.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Permanent wiring in a cabinet or vehicle, 2 m long. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • A Cat 6 modem only shows its speed with good antennas. Since power is never the limit on a RUT260, spend the effort on antenna placement instead.
  • Measure the voltage at the router end once installed, especially with long cable runs on 12 V systems.
  • Use a decent supply. Teltonika warns that cheap adapters can send voltage spikes when plugged in or unplugged, and those spikes can damage the router.

Teltonika RUT260 power FAQ

?What voltage does the Teltonika RUT260 need?

The Teltonika RUT260 accepts 9 to 30 V DC on its 4-pin socket. That covers 12 V and 24 V systems, but not 48 V.

?Why buy a separate power cable for the Teltonika RUT260?

The adapter in the box only works with a wall socket. In a vehicle, a cabinet or on a battery, the car cable or the screw terminal cable is the better fit.

?The Teltonika RUT260 is faster than a RUT240. Does it need a bigger power supply?

No. Teltonika measured the RUT260 at about 2.9 W under full load at 12 V, which is actually lower than the RUT240. Any of our three cables has plenty of margin.

?What do the green and white wires do on the Teltonika RUT260?

Green is the digital input on pin 3 and white is the digital output on pin 4. You set up both in the RutOS web interface.

?Will the 230 V supply run the Teltonika RUT260 at full load?

Yes. Teltonika's full-load figure is 2.9 W at 12 V, which leaves 15.1 W unused.

?Do you sell the Teltonika RUT260 itself?

No. We only make the power cables and the supply. The Teltonika RUT260 is sold by Teltonika's distributors.
