Teltonika RUT241 power supply and cables

Everything about powering the Teltonika RUT241, a compact 4G router: the voltage it accepts, its real power draw and the cables that fit.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 3.3 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Only the power side is ours. The Teltonika RUT241 is made and sold by Teltonika, while the cables below are made and shipped by Smart Power Cable.

About the Teltonika RUT241

The RUT241 is the closest like-for-like follow-up to the RUT240. It shares the 83 x 25 x 74 mm housing, the two Ethernet ports and the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and Teltonika's wiki says RUT240 documentation also applies to it. Teltonika also offers it in a version with eSIM.

Installers like it because it drops into the same DIN rail clip and cut-out as the RUT240 it replaces.

How much power the RUT241 draws

Teltonika's power table puts the Teltonika RUT241 at 1.1 W idle and 3.3 W flat out at 12 V. In current that is about 273 mA, against the 1500 mA our supply can give. On a 24 V supply the peak is about 3.2 W.

Peak at 12 V: 3.3 W of the 18 W our 230 V supply delivers

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. A replacement for the original adapter, with 14.7 W of spare capacity.
  • Vehicle. For 12 V cars and 24 V trucks, passing 9 to 30 V straight through.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. For DC rails, batteries and solar. Green and white bring out the I/O. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • Upgrading from a RUT240? Keep the same cable. The pin layout is identical, so even an input or output you wired on the old router works the same way.
  • On 24 V vehicles, add surge protection. Truck and bus systems can spike well above 30 V at engine start, and the Teltonika RUT241 is only rated to 30 V.
  • Insulate any wire you do not use. A loose green or white wire touching the cabinet can trigger an input or short an output.

Teltonika RUT241 power FAQ

?Can I run the Teltonika RUT241 on 12 V or 24 V?

Yes, both. The input range is 9 to 30 V DC, fed through the 4-pin power socket.

?Does the Teltonika RUT241 come with a power supply?

New units usually ship with a 9 V wall adapter. A second cable makes sense for spares, a second site, or an install where a wall plug is not practical, such as a vehicle or a DIN rail cabinet.

?My Teltonika RUT241 came with a 9 V adapter. Is a 12 V, 18 W supply too strong?

No. The RUT241 accepts anything from 9 to 30 V, and a supply only delivers the current the router asks for. At its busiest the RUT241 takes about 3.3 W, so our supply runs well within its rating.

?Can I use the input and output on the Teltonika RUT241 with your cable?

Yes. The screw terminal cable brings pin 3 (digital input) out on the green wire and pin 4 (digital output) on the white wire. Configure them in RutOS under Services, Input/Output.

?Does Smart Power Cable sell Teltonika routers?

Not the router, no. We are an independent maker of power cables. The Teltonika RUT241 is a Teltonika product sold through their own channels.
