Teltonika RUT261 power supply and cables

The Teltonika RUT261 is a compact 4G router with a 4-pin power socket. Here is what fits it, what it draws, and which cable suits your install.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 30 V DC
  • Peak 2.7 W at 12 V

We sell the cable, not the router. Good to know: we sell the power cable, not the Teltonika RUT261. If you need the router, buy it from a Teltonika distributor and pick the lead here.

About the Teltonika RUT261

The RUT261 is Teltonika's budget take on the Cat 6 router. It keeps the compact housing, the two Ethernet ports and 4G Cat 6 speeds, and leaves out extras to keep the price down. Teltonika describes it as built for everyday operational needs without added complexity.

Think of it for larger roll-outs where you need dozens of identical units and every euro per site counts.

How much power the RUT261 draws

Teltonika measured the Teltonika RUT261 at 1.1 W when idle and 2.7 W at full load on a 12 V supply, about 222 mA. That is 15% of what our 18 W supply can deliver. Teltonika's 24 V figure is 2.7 W at peak.

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. 12 V from a wall socket. The RUT261 peaks at 2.7 W, well within the 18 W rating.
  • Vehicle. Quick vehicle install. Fine on 12 V and 24 V systems.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for 12, 24 or 30 V DC, with the I/O wires included. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • On a large roll-out, order the same cable type for every site. It keeps spares simple and means a field technician never has to guess which lead goes where.
  • On 24 V vehicles, add surge protection. Truck and bus systems can spike well above 30 V at engine start, and the Teltonika RUT261 is only rated to 30 V.
  • Fit a fuse near the battery when you use the screw terminal cable on 12 V. Our FAQ suggests a 2 A slow-blow fuse.

Teltonika RUT261 power FAQ

?Which input voltage does the Teltonika RUT261 accept?

Anything from 9 to 30 V DC works, so a 12 V battery, a 24 V truck system or our 12 V supply are all fine. Stay below 30 V, including spikes.

?I lost the adapter for my Teltonika RUT261. What do I need?

Any DC supply within 9 to 30 V DC on a Teltonika-style 4-pin plug will work. Our 230 V supply gives 12 V at 1.5 A, which suits the Teltonika RUT261.

?Is the Teltonika RUT261 the same as the RUT260 when it comes to power?

Very close. Both take 9 to 30 V on the same 4-pin socket. Teltonika measured the RUT261 at about 2.7 W at full load on 12 V, so the same cables and supplies work.

?Does the screw terminal cable give access to the Teltonika RUT261's I/O?

Yes. Only the screw terminal cable connects them. Green goes to the input and white to the output. The car cable and the 230 V supply only use the power pins.

?How much headroom does the Teltonika RUT261 leave on an 18 W supply?

Plenty. At 2.7 W peak, the Teltonika RUT261 uses 15% of 18 W.

?Can I buy the Teltonika RUT261 from you?

No, the router is not included. You get the cable or supply you order, and the Teltonika RUT261 itself comes from a Teltonika reseller.
