Teltonika RUTX08 power supply and cables

Everything about powering the Teltonika RUTX08, an industrial wired router: the voltage it accepts, its real power draw and the cables that fit.

  • 4-pin socket
  • 9 to 50 V DC
  • Peak 2.5 W at 12 V
  • EOL announced

We sell the cable, not the router. Only the power side is ours. The Teltonika RUTX08 is made and sold by Teltonika, while the cables below are made and shipped by Smart Power Cable.

EOL announced

Teltonika has announced end of life for the Teltonika RUTX08. Orders are accepted until 3 February 2027, production runs until 3 August 2027 and support continues until 3 August 2032. Teltonika names the Teltonika RUTM08 as the replacement. According to Teltonika's wiki it has a 4-pin 9 to 50 V socket, so our cables fit it as well.

About the Teltonika RUTX08

The RUTX08 is the odd one out in the RUTX family: it has no mobile modem and no Wi-Fi. It is a wired industrial router with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB port and RutOS, used for VPN, firewalling and routing between networks.

It typically sits between a machine network and the corporate network, or terminates a VPN at a remote site with a fixed line.

How much power the RUTX08 draws

Teltonika's power table puts the Teltonika RUTX08 at 1.1 W idle and 2.5 W flat out at 12 V. In current that is about 204 mA, against the 1500 mA our supply can give. On a 24 V supply the peak is about 2.6 W.

Peak at 12 V: 2.5 W of the 18 W our 230 V supply delivers

Which cable should I pick?

  • Wall socket. A replacement for the original adapter, with 15.6 W of spare capacity.
  • Vehicle. A quick vehicle install with a fused plug and LED.
  • Cabinet, battery or solar. Bare ends for 12, 24 or 48 V DC, with the I/O wires included. Add a 2 A slow-blow fuse near the source.

Install tips

  • Because the RUTX08 is often the gateway for a whole site, power it from a supply that also feeds the switch and firewall, ideally behind a small UPS.
  • The Teltonika RUTX08 is rated to 50 V, which gives good margin on 24 V vehicles. A clean supply is still the best protection against spikes.
  • Fit a fuse near the battery when you use the screw terminal cable on 12 V. Our FAQ suggests a 2 A slow-blow fuse.

Teltonika RUTX08 power FAQ

?Can I run the Teltonika RUTX08 on 12 V or 24 V?

Yes. The Teltonika RUTX08 accepts 9 to 50 V DC, which covers 12 V, 24 V and most 48 V DC installations.

?I lost the adapter for my Teltonika RUTX08. What do I need?

Any DC supply within 9 to 50 V DC on a Teltonika-style 4-pin plug will work. Our 230 V supply gives 12 V at 1.5 A, which suits the Teltonika RUTX08.

?Teltonika RUTX08 has no modem. Does it still need much power?

No, very little. Teltonika measured about 2.5 W at full load on 12 V, the lowest of the whole RUTX range.

?Does the screw terminal cable give access to the Teltonika RUTX08's I/O?

Yes. Only the screw terminal cable connects them. Green goes to the input and white to the output. The car cable and the 230 V supply only use the power pins.

?How much headroom does the Teltonika RUTX08 leave on an 18 W supply?

Plenty. At 2.5 W peak, the Teltonika RUTX08 uses 14% of 18 W.

?Does Smart Power Cable sell Teltonika routers?

Not the router, no. We are an independent maker of power cables. The Teltonika RUTX08 is a Teltonika product sold through their own channels.
