Thomson’s 4K UHD Streaming Stick brings Google TV, Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ to any TV with an HDMI port. Like most sticks, it ships with its own power supply. If you would rather run it from the TV, the Smart Power Cable makes that dependable.
Why the Thomson stick needs more than a TV port
Thomson rates its current 4K streaming dongle at 5 V and 1 A, with up to 5 W while working. A TV USB port is often limited to about 0.5 A, or 2.5 W. That shortfall shows up when the stick decodes 4K HDR, loads the Google TV home screen or downloads an app. The stick restarts and you are back at the boot logo.
How the Smart Power Cable fixes it
A built-in energy buffer inside the cable charges from the TV’s USB port during quiet moments. When the Thomson stick hits a peak, the buffer adds the power the port cannot. That keeps the voltage steady and the stick running.
The cable arrives charged. We still recommend about 60 minutes of charging on a USB port before first use.
Fitting it
- Insert the Thomson stick into a free HDMI port.
- Connect the Smart Power Cable to the stick’s USB power input.
- Plug the USB end into the TV’s USB port or a USB charger.
- Switch to the HDMI input and complete the Google TV setup.
Home or 12 V travel
Thomson describes its dongle as portable, and many owners take it on holiday. In a motorhome, caravan or on a boat, the Smart Power Cable lets it run from a 12 V TV’s USB port or a 12 V USB socket, with no inverter needed. At home it gives a cleaner install on a wall-mounted TV and frees a socket for something else.
Before you order
Thomson has sold more than one 4K streaming stick, and the power input can differ between generations. Look at the power port on your stick and the rating printed on its original power supply. If the power supply says 5 V and 1 A, you are in the range the Smart Power Cable is made for. If you have any doubt, send us the model number and we will tell you what to expect before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
Can I power the Thomson 4K stick from my TV?
Yes, with the Smart Power Cable. On its own, a TV port is often too weak at peaks.
Does it work on 12 V in a motorhome?
Yes. Use the TV’s USB port or a 12 V USB socket. The cable needs only a USB connection.
Will 4K still work?
Yes. The cable only provides power, so picture quality is not affected.
What if my TV turns USB off in standby?
The stick will then restart with the TV. Use a USB charger or 12 V USB socket if you want it to stay on.
