The Strong Leap Air is a 4K Google TV stick with HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos passthrough, sold widely across Europe. Strong is clear in its manual: use the 1 A power supply, because a 0.5 A source is not enough. That is exactly the gap the Smart Power Cable is made for.
The power need of the Leap Air
The Leap Air takes 5 V at 1 A through micro-USB and uses around 3 W while working. On paper that looks modest, but the stick draws more in short bursts when it starts up, connects to Wi-Fi and decodes 4K. A TV USB port rated at 0.5 A cannot follow those bursts, which is why Strong tells owners to use its own power supply.
How the Smart Power Cable works
Our cable has a built-in energy buffer. It charges steadily from the TV’s USB port and delivers extra power during the bursts. The Leap Air sees the supply it expects, and the TV port stays within its limits.
Charge the cable for about 60 minutes before first use. It then tops itself up from the USB port.
Installation
- Plug the Leap Air into an HDMI port, with the included HDMI cable if needed.
- Connect the Smart Power Cable to the stick’s micro-USB power port.
- Plug the USB end into the TV’s USB port.
- Switch on, pick the HDMI input and complete the Google TV setup.
Home, motorhome, caravan or boat
At home the cable hides the power supply and frees a socket behind the TV. The Leap Air is light and easy to pack, so it is a good travel stick. In a motorhome or caravan with a 12 V TV, the Smart Power Cable lets it run from the TV’s USB port or a 12 V USB socket, without an inverter. On a boat it works the same way.
Good to know before you buy
Keep the original Strong power supply in the box. It is useful when you move the stick to a TV without a USB port, or when you want the Leap Air to stay on while the TV is in standby. With the Smart Power Cable you simply have the choice. If your TV has more than one USB port, try them all: some TVs give more current on one port than on another.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Strong Leap Air run from my TV’s USB port?
Not reliably on its own, since many TV ports give 0.5 A. With the Smart Power Cable the energy buffer covers the difference.
Does it work in a motorhome?
Yes. Use the TV’s USB port or a 12 V USB socket. No 230 V is needed.
Will I lose HDR or Dolby Atmos?
No. The cable only handles power. HDMI signals are untouched.
Can I leave it connected?
Yes. It is designed to stay plugged in and recharge from the port.
