Chromecast power cable: questions and answers

Thinking about running Chromecast from the TV's USB port instead of a wall socket? These are the questions we hear most often about the Chromecast power cable, each with a short and honest answer. If yours is missing, write to us.

Questions customers ask

Is the Chromecast included?

No. You get the power cable only. Keep using your own Chromecast and plug it into the TV's HDMI port as before.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. The power cable only provides power. Apps and channels come from the Chromecast, which needs Wi-Fi or another internet connection, for example a mobile router in the motorhome.

Does it work with a Chromecast Ultra?

No. Google says the Ultra must run on its own power supply, which also holds its Ethernet port. For the other Chromecast models, older ones included, this power cable is the one to choose.

Is it ready to use out of the box?

It ships charged. Even so, give it about 60 minutes on a USB port before first use for a full charge. From then on it keeps itself topped up.

How quickly will it arrive, and can I send it back?

Orders placed before 13:00 on a working day leave the same day, and always within 3 working days. Shipping is €15 within the EU and €29 to the rest of Europe, tracked with DHL. You can return it within 14 days of delivery and you cover the return postage. Details are in our terms and conditions.
